Paulie Comment
I made a comment a while back when either Burlington got Breeze or when Manchester got Avelo and how Bangor and Worcester were the only 2 airports in New England with more than 1 airline at their airport that doesn’t have breeze or avelo operating flights out of it. Today that becomes false as Worcester (starting in October) will be the only airport in New England without either airline flying out of it. Bangor just got 3 routes with breeze starting in October to Orlando, Tampa, and Fort Myers.
While we know ORH is trying to get a flight to Puerto Rico or more flights to NYC (Boston Globe article is the source on that), I think airline officials are realizing these past 4 weeks that parking is a major issue. Yes it’s great that the flights are doing extremely well right now with school vacations and spring break but there is no over flow lot. Breeze or Avelo wouldn’t have any issue flying to Florida or a different destination and for it to be popular but Worcester needs to address the parking situation soon and fix it before more flights could come in.
The article also mentioned that Andy Davis doesn’t like the idea of shuttles from an overflow lot to the airport (WRTA current bus doesn’t count) so if there’s going to be more spots, they’ll have to figure it out quick. The new spots on the upper lot are supposedly temporary but may have to become permanent with how good demand is. The moral of the story right now is: other airports are expanding with more flights and destinations while ORH is currently sitting with the 5 they have because they can’t add more. I’m flying out with American to Nashville in 3 weeks during April vacation and flying back in 4 weeks with delta. I’ll be curious to see how the parking lots are at those times

If we get back the JB 6am flight to JFK and get a new early morning Delta flight to Atlanta, that solves almost every problem ORH has in terms of usability for nearly every type of traveler. That literally opens up the entire world of destinations from ORH.
The only issue is that you have to connect in winter weather months, which I would avoid due to the delay or cancellation risks but not everyone feels that way.
It seems much easier to do that than get another airline, but I’m only guessing. I’m curious what the other people who clearly know the airline industry that comment here think
JB is unlikely to fly an airbus a220 from Worcester to JFK. JB is getting rid of the 100 passenger 190, that’s why we lost NY. JB doesn’t have commuter planes like other airlines. Worcester needs Delta and American to fly the commuter flights. Delta goes back and forth from Logan to JFK with 50 seat planes all day long. Worcester draws direct passengers. The public likes cheap parking and direct flights. JB biggest problem is Carl Icahn, he has two seats at the table, he bought 240 mil shares of JB, he will make changes that could make or break Worcester and other airports as well. He already has.
Delta no longer flies 50 seaters, the CRJ-200 was shed last year. Their smallest AC is the CRJ-700 a 69 seater. Worcester currently gets the CRJ-900, depending on the configuration it’s either a 70 or 76 seater. We normally get the 70 seater. I think our best way forward is an am flight to JFK with Delta. JFK is also a Delta hub that serves all over the U.S. including the west coast, plus international flights. LaGuardia is pretty much only east coast and the Midwest. We could have two daily NYC flights that give us a direct connection to pretty much every where.
As for American, I think a return to Philadelphia would be best. If they have the route two years to grow I think we could sustain two daily flights.
Together I think those four flights would attract business travelers.
