WBJ Story on ORH

It only took a couple of days, but once Breeze announced new service out of Pease, Allegiant added a new flight to Sarasota out of Pease.
Hello…. Massport??? Anyone home??? You are running ORH, or should I say D’Oh-RH into the ground. I will go ahead and say it that Massport taking over ORH has largely been a failure. It’s pretty clear that the only reason we have any service at all is because of some quid pro quo between the airlines and Massport to get what they want at Logan. Over the last year we have seen major service expansion at every other airport in New England. The last “new” service announcement we got at ORH was in April of 2023. Remember that big celebration that all the politicians showed up for??? And then 2 days later JetBlue quietly cancelled the JFK flights???
The fact of the matter is that there is a reason that airlines are staying away from ORH. The proximity to other airports excuse is lame. Manchester is 45 minutes from Pease and Pease is about 45 minutes from Portland, ME and all 3 now have service from Breeze and all 3 have now had significant expansion of service over the last year. I expect in the case of Manchester that you will see additional expansion from Avelo and Breeze as they compete with each other and Pease has Allegiant and Breeze competing with each other now so I expect additional expansion there as well. I also wouldn’t be entirely shocked if Breeze started flying out of Logan at some point.
If Massport really intended to make ORH a reliever airport to Logan we’d be way ahead of where we are now. As it is, I’ll continue giving my business to TF Green. I can get there in an hour +/- from my house in Worcester (146 to I-295) and parking is pretty cheap there ($14 per day in the Economy Lot) plus I can get to West Palm Beach early in the day as opposed to late at night out of ORH.
