Breeze Nothing here to see

It’s just a Sports Charter for Georgetown University. Nothing out of the ordinary, happens every now and then. Has ZERO to do with any possible service of Breeze to ORH. Let’s put down that rumor before it has a chance to fester.

Thanks Rusty

The reason Breeze was at ORH today was most likely because of Georgetown University. Georgetown University is in Washington DC and they’re playing Holy Cross tomorrow. That’s why the aircraft came from and is landing in Washington Dulles, an airport Breeze does not service. I had to do some research first on it and that’s what I’m 99% sure it is.

Many colleges use Breeze to charter planes for the teams to go to and from games. Iaero airways used to be the big company but they’ve been extremely bad recently although the Boston Bruins and other major sports teams use them. It wasn’t a surprise to many when they filed for bankruptcy a couple of months ago. Iaero flew in 2 teams here a couple of years ago when the NCAA Frozen Frenzy regional was played at the DCU center to qualify for a final 4 spot. Avelo has been being used by sports teams as well to charter teams. I don’t get why the aircraft wouldn’t just stay in Worcester and use the same pilots and crew but still I’m confident that’s the reason why.

Another useful thing to know, if there’s ever an un ordinary plane that goes to a certain airport (the big airports it’s hard to tell but smaller ones you’ll notice) it’s most likely a charter aircraft. For example, any Boeing 767, 777, or 747 that lands at PVD is most likely the patriots opponent (Dolphins and Ravens use Atlas Air 747, other teams use American and United 777s). For you sports guys who are curious as well, the Red Sox and Celtics currently use Boeing 757s. Red Sox usually fly into Logan and out of it. Celtics usually fly in and out of Bedford and if it’s their last away game, they usually fly from wherever when the game is over. The Bruins use Iaero airways Boeing 737 in and out of Bedford usually. The patriots were using American 777s in the pre season because Eastern Airways (the company that operates the patriots planes) is being sued by the pats for breach of contract but the patriots might be using its own planes again. For the Germany game, Patriots used Virgin Atlantic to fly over there and back, so did the colts.

Thanks Paul

  1. Something interesting at the airport today. From the area where the delta gate is (gate 4) all the way to the first 4-5 parking spots of each row in the upper parking lot, it’s all blocked off and the parking lot has signs saying no parking from November 15th to December 31st. Unsure what the plan is with that area but one thing I can possibly guess is expanding the gate area and having bridges to gates 5 and 6? That’s a possibility with all of the area that’s blocked off. It’s about 350 feet they blocked off up there. Don’t get your hopes up thinking that’s what it is because I’m not 100% sure, it’s just a thought as too what I think it could be. It may also have to do with the new security area that’s suppose to open before the fort Myers flight is coming to ORH that was planned. I don’t think it’s repaving while all of the equipment is up there from the runway work because why only have a certain number of spots blocked off. Even the EV chargers say no parking so I’m curious to see what’s going to happen.

Also, for anyone interested, there is a meeting on Tuesday December 5th at 6:30pm at the airport. It’s mainly meant for the people who live in tatnuck square as they use to have a yearly meeting with Massport to discuss what’s going on at the airport before covid and it’ll be the first meeting since the pandemic. Andy Davis will be there and running the meeting for one hour with the last 15 minutes being a Q&A for those to ask about info pertaining to the meeting only.

  2. I was reading an article regarding Avelo exiting 4 markets. The airline is struggling in 5 other markets. The part that stood out to me mentioned in the article, Avelo is flying 16 mid life planes and does not have any on order. You can only grow so big with 16 aircraft. Let’s see what happens.

  3. Paul – The area you are referenced with the barriers adjacent to Delta’s Gate 4 is for additional customer parking. The parking lots have been become pretty full and once Jetblue starts the Fort Myer’s service its going to further strain the current parking lots.

As someone who travels through Worcester Regional Airport on a weekly basis it has been great to see so much more activity at the airport!

  4. Found out from an airport employee that the blocked off area is going to be for additional parking at the airport. It’s a decent size area so should add easily at least 50-100 spots. Also, when the Fort Myers flight is added, gate 3 will start being used again by JetBlue. The TSA area is being expanded as scheduled and is expected to be open by the time the fort Myers flight starts. I’m flying out January 8th so we’ll see if it’s open by then (the fort myers flight starts on January 4th so we’ll see).

  5. Went up to the airport today and they have started construction on the additional parking area up at the airport. It looked like there is going to be little to no paving that will have to be done so very minimal work on that part but they still have to level or connect the fenced off additional parking area to the existing parking lot and there is a little bit of an elevation difference between the existing lot and area that’s blocked off so they’ll most likely pave it and it’ll be a very tiny hill you have to go up on.

One thing I will add though, assuming the fenced off area remains as is, it seems like gates 5 and 6 will be non existent officially and ORH will be a 4 gate facility unless they do more work to the terminal in the future. The fenced off area goes right along where delta’s gate is.
