American To Orlando

Read Time:13 Second

Think we all would admit would be top destination for Worcester. If you took American out of Worcester leaving at 1:50PM, you would get to Orlando at 11:10PM with stops at JFK and Miami. Not many of these tickets being sold.

  1. Worcester needs a night flight to Puerto Rico leaving @11 pm and returing to Worcester @7 am and leaving Worcester to FLL @ 8:30 am and returning to Worcester @ 12:30 pm leaving Worcester @ 1:30 pm and arriving at FLL @ 5:30 and leaving FLL @ 6:45 pm and returning to Worcester @ 9 :45 pm and leaving Worcester @ 11 pm back to Puerto Rico. The schedule can look something like this. Boston to SDQ and Puerto Rico go at the 11-11:30 times, flights are booked solid. We can’t do SDQ but we can do Puerto Rico easy. Two flights a day to FLL, one flight daily to Puerto Rico.

  2. That would never work for Worcester unfortunately, at least not for a while. There was a day last year where there were two FLL flights (it happens when times change sometimes) and both flights had less than 50% seats booked. Worcester needs to add more parking if that ever wants to become a reality and like Rusty said in a previous comment, people have missed flights at Tweed because they don’t have enough parking and that’s the last thing you want to do at ORH.

While there are other alternative options, they’re not good. The only ones I can think of is other than airport limousine, is either book a hotel room at AC hotel and take the shuttle and get the parking there (if coming from afar), or take the city bus (which is honestly really convenient and free until June of next year) but a lot of families don’t like doing that. There’s also Uber and Lyft too but for families of 6 for example, it’s really difficult finding a big enough Uber for everything.

JetBlue is also having an issue it seems like with crews at ORH for the FLL flight. I’m not sure if this is because of Atlantic Aviation or JetBlue but the issue that I’ve noticed been happening the past week or so is either both flights will be delayed by an hour or more, or the flight from FLL will arrive on time, but the flight back down will leave late. Just the past 8 days for example, the flight back to FLL has departed over an hour late the past 4 days and has left late (more than 15 minutes after scheduled) 7 out of 8 days. The flight coming to ORH the last 8 days has landed late only 3 of those days. So something is going on that’s causing a delay in Worcester whether it’s Atlantic Aviation or JetBlue not having enough crew for a flight. Luckily the schedule changes next week so hopefully we don’t see that happening anymore as well.

**Only one delay was because of a late aircraft

    1. The airport could use the Worcester state university lot down the road on airport hill heading to Webster square. I flew back from FLL on Monday, the JB app showed three seats left. The two people sitting next to me drove from dracut to fly out of Worcester, this was their third time flying out of Worcester in the last two months down to FLL.

      1. I have an uncle who flies out of ORH to go to Fort Lauderdale, flies almost every weekend down there in the fall and winter and only comes up if he has to go in the office. He’s a mosaic member on JetBlue so he gets all the perks (2 free checked bags for him and companions, always pays the cheapest fare, priority boarding, even more space upgrades if available, etc.) and takes advantages of the FLL flight to ORH. I’ve mentioned it before and he always tells me, the best schedule for him is what the E190 used to do which is fly out at 6am and land back at midnight. Felt like 2 bonus days he got down there whenever. They’re bringing that schedule back at the end of the year which a lot of ppl will like.

Lot of people don’t realize too, you’re only 1 hour away from West Palm Beach and Miami from Fort Lauderdale and if you don’t wanna drive, you can take a shuttle to the brightline train station and then take the train to either place (which will also expand to MCO airport in the summer too). It’s very easy to go to a patriots game against Miami down there and I’m going down in September to go watch a college football game at hard rock.

In regard to Worcester State lot, it wouldn’t be a bad idea in the summer because obviously school is out from the middle of May to Labor Day but the other times is when it becomes an issue. February vacation 2024 will be concerning and if the fort Myers flight stays past March, April vacation will be concerning too. I think it wouldn’t be to much of an issue and have gates to where if WSU students park in the fall or spring, they just scan their ID and get in. Set up gates just like the airport has and have a partnership. Go to Worcester State? Park your car for free in the satellite lot and take the shuttle to the airport.

Only issue would be having a shuttle company do it but what’s stopping either the company already doing it to WSU campus do the airport as well or having the WRTA bring a bus there and back every 20 minutes or so? Maybe also the clearing of the land around the airport is potential for another parking lot to be built as well who knows? Are they adding more parking? Are they trying to get freight companies like FedEx, UPS, Amazon up there (all of them with their presences in central mass would be great) and want to build warehouse space? Only time will tell

  3. So, if Tweed is running out of parking even with daily rates between 19 and 29 bucks, perhaps Massport needs to give their daily rate plans back to the 1980,s and start charging more. Also one should not conclude (better yet, ASS-U-ME) that the afternoon delays are a JetBlue, Atlantic Aviation or Worcester airport issue. It’s called ground delays, ground stops, and flow control programs initiated by the FAA usually due to the notorious afternoon spring thunderstorms in FLA and up the Eastern Seaboard. A simple Google search of “FAA Delay Programs” and you’ll see why these flights are being delayed. If today’s FLL flight is delayed, then you’ll see that it’s due to any one of 3 things…. A ground stop for volume, ground delay for an air show, or departure delay for thunderstorms. Take your pick. IRWT!

  4. The bright line train station in Boca Raton has been revamped looks inviting. Florida is pushing the train from Miami/FLl/ Orlando. That’s all you hear on the radio is information about the bright line. Worcester needs 15-20 flight a day. Yes I agree there is plenty of land to create more parking.
