Worcester airport to Logan is the same distance from Bradley airport to Tweed in New Haven Ct, the difference is they are flying a start up airline that is running specials on the website and advertising like crazy all over the southern part of Ct. I fly to FLL twice a month because I own a home there and many people from central Ma do as well.

Off the top of my head I know over 50 people ( Many of them Mosaic Members) that own condo’s/homes in FLL metro area. I notice on my flight to and from FLL many of the same people. I also notice over the last ten years many more people from central Ma are heading to FLL in the summer, especially the property owners. In my opinion two flights a day to FLL would do well. Worcester needs Breeze or Avelo, they will make a big splash with website specials and tons of local advertisement.

The big splash from one of the two start up airlines would help the current airlines, the splash would do the heavy lifting for the others. The Orlando flight should do well, JB has two connecting flights to the Dominican Republic twice a day, two flights to Punta Cana and Two flights to SDQ the capital. In regards to the west coast flight most of the people from the midwest part of the US go to the west coast of FLL, hopefully the flight does well!

The Dominican Republic tourism is going crazy, people from all over the world are buying homes/condo’s there, S. Florida is just to expensive. JB need to promote the connections to the Caribbean from Worcester. I want Worcester airport to prosper, it’s so convient you don’t want to fly out of Boston.

The AA flight to JFK is a miserable failure because the only Florida destination AA flies to out of JFK is Miami and if there is one strength in the Worcester market, it’s people traveling to Florida.

As stated many times already in this blog, the Delta flight is just too late to make most connections unless you want to get to your destination super late. The other issue with Delta flying to LaGuardia is that anyone trying to fly out West or internationally would have to make at least 2 stops because of something called a “perimeter rule” that prohibits flights to/from destinations more than 1,500 miles away.

In all honesty, Jetblue should just focus on the Florida and other leisure destinations out of ORH. AA and Delta should be the airlines flying to hubs, but those hubs MUST be DC or Charlotte for AA and Atlanta for Delta if they have any hope of being successful here.

  1. I realize that it is spring break but the American outbound flight was sold out on Friday and is sold out Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Delta was sold out on Friday and is sold out on Sunday. This shows that people are aware of these flights. Flights to JFK were still available out of Boston and Bradley but not Worcester.

  2. One thing I remember in the speech when they announced the Orlando flight again and reading the articles was I believe it was the CEO of JetBlue mentioning about how you can connect at MCO to go to the Dominican Republic, or Puerto Rico, or one of those places. Same thing with the Fort Lauderdale flight, I remember when I flew that flight for the first time in January of last year, there were people connecting from FLL heading south.

The thing I loved about the times of the E190 when it was the plane that did the FLL flight was how great the time was. You could leave Worcester at 6am and get down to FLL by 9am and then leave FLL at 830pm at night and make it back to Worcester around 11pm.

These times were great for two reasons, first one being the connections you could make were great if you were going to San Juan or somewhere else from FLL. Second reason was it really felt like you had 2 bonus days in Fort Lauderdale. Instead of getting down there, unpacking your stuff, getting dinner then going to bed (as well as pack your stuff up and head straight to the airport for going home), you still had the entire day down there and could easily plan something to do the first day you arrived or the last day you were there since you didn’t have to get to the airport till 630pm. If nothing changes, that schedule is suppose to be back with the A320 this time at the end of October so a lot of people going down for thanksgiving or Christmas will benefit from the schedule change.
