Fort Lauderdale Flight Sunday, Bad Day For ORH
Weather was a problem yesterday and caused alot of delays for many people at various airports. We understand that…
The ORH flight yesterday from Fort Lauderdale seemed to be as much weather as crew/airline management. Passengers waited 11 hours, loaded on plane 2 times, went through 3 different crews and never got off the ground.
As happy as we are with the FLL and MCO loads, it is a big problem when a flight gets cancelled like this since you have little chance to get a seat on the next day, or even the day after. It also highlights how much losing the JetBlue JFK flights hurts. If we still had these flights you could have always gotten a flight to JFK and then connected thru to ORH.
In retrospect we would have been much better off losing American and Delta, but keeping the two JFK flights with JetBlue. Bet you most of the people whose flight was cancelled yesterday will be coming home to Providence, Boston, Manchester or Hartford, since we have very limited options now. Not ORH, which shows a major weakness in the “plan”.
Actually Avelo to New Haven may be the best option, price wise. Just a real bad day yesterday for ORH….

Orlando is definitely more popular than FLL for the airport although both flights do extremely well. This isn’t a surprise...
I agree, when there is only one flight a day, and the flight gets cancelled because of crew issues or weather, you’re going end up in another New England airport. In regards to Avelo they only have 15 planes to cover all of there routes, its happening to their passengers as well. Airline quality website gives them 1 1/2 stars our of 5 possible stars. They have two stars out of 5 on yelp. Worcester should have two flights a day to FLL, two Flights a day to Orlando, Two flights a day to Tampa, a night flight to Puerto Rico returning to Worcester in the am going back to FLL. The Puerto Rico and Dominican destination flights out of Boston at night are slammed. I understand the Dominican Republic flights can’t work, because of immigration issues, just an example. Hopefully the passengers on the Sunday flight give Worcester another chance. Remember bad travels faster than good!
Oh yea. Bad day at ORH? Try in the US? 9866 delays. 2058 cancellations. NYC airports shut down, all kinds of diversions. So, here are the facts. JetBlue tried their hardest to keep FLL live because BOS, PVD, NYC……EVERY FLIGHT was sold out. If the JFK flights were still here, they would be no help. Because 1. They were scheduled leave ORH before FLL even arrived. 2. They would have either cancelled or even grossly delayed too because NYC was pummeled with weather. 3 all the flights from JFK to FLA were sold out too.
There was no protection for passengers because of the heavy loads and cancellations at all the other airports. So, the best alternative for ANY airline at ANY airport is to keep it live and find a crew. They had the plane. That resolved half the the challenge. But since the entire system was screwed, all attempts for a crew fell apart. At least they tried.
Days like this will happen in the airline world. So, don’t make this an ORH problem. Do some homework and learn more about airline management if you’re ever going to understand operating “plans”.
Is there any information on why FLL and MCO are not showing as daily flights on JetBlue’s website? Noticed that late summer early Fall, Tuesday and Wednesday’s are not available on the schedule. I thought these flights would be daily as promoted.
3 noontime flights from FLL to BOS-PRO-ORH yesterday. BOS and PRO landed, admittedly 3 hours late. ORH was cancelled. Besides the JFK flight from FLL, you can drive to West Palm and fly to JFK.
Bottom line if you were flying yesterday JetBlue yesterday at noon from FLL to BOS/PRO, you got home yesterday. If you were flying to ORH, you did not and you have not other options now w/o the JetBlue JFK flight. Not a good day for ORH yesterday with passengers waiting 11 hours in terminal., boarding plane twice only to be cancelled..
It looks like for two months, you won’t be able to fly on Tuesday or Wednesday out of Worcester to FLL/Orlando. That’s another blow to Worcester. You need consistency, people want to fly when they want, not when you tell them. The airport needs to create a habit for flyers.
