During the peak April travel period the terminal at Worcester Regional Airport will be a busier place. Airport Director Andy Davis told Spectrum News 1 that between April 14th and 27th JetBlue will add a second direct flight on selected days to and from its Florida destinations of Fort Lauderdale, Orlando and Fort Myers. Davis said these added flights are great news, “Since spring break has been so successful, particularly to Fort Myers, home of the Worcester Red Sox, Boston Red Sox training camp. So we will have jam-packed terminals and a lot of happy customers flying back and forth.”

Davis said Worcester’s capacity to grow will allow the Massport-owned facility to handle the extra passenger volume, “Good thing about having more activity, we have room to grow here. The flights will be leaving between basically the hours of 12 noon and 6 p.m. We will have an overnighter, so we’ll have a morning operation at 6 o’clock and a late night arrival depending on which day it is and which flight the flight will be coming in from. We’ll be adequately manned. The TSA is fully prepared to handle the increased volume and we’ll have a nice smooth operation going to accommodate the customers.”

Massport is pleased that JetBlue chose Worcester to add extra flights. Davis, “Worcester has been good to them. They could have put those additional flights at other surrounding airports. They chose Worcester and we really appreciate that.”

  1. Flew down to San Juan and back from Boston. At least 10 people from Worcester on the flight. I would think a early daily departure with a late arrival back into ORH would do well

  2. JB is exploring a sale to a top tier airlines. That could be the end of Worcester commercial aviation if that happens. Roughly 25 nm to Boston Logan, Southwest, Alaska, or United are probably not going to fly out of a regional airport. Airlines like JB fly the seasonal, five day or two day flight thing. I don’t know if the airlines I mentioned will play that game. It would be weird with know JB in the sky. The past CEO and the current CEO suck.
