Boston Globe Story On ORH
The story is from February, but every time I read it???? Amazing, maybe it was from the Onion https://twitter.com/jonchesto/status/1757432534617530706
FLL flight just diverted back to Worcester after making it as far as the Virginia/North Carolina border. Wonder what happened?
I should have seen the JFK flight cuts coming. The reason JB is reluctant to add more than 3 flights is any more requires JB per contract to supply their own ground crew/ticket attendants, etc. Currently this is out sourced to Atlantic Aviation. Without cutting the JFK flights, this would’ve bumped JB to 4x daily flights in June and 5x daily (come 2024). That would force JB to supply staff to ORH which they have (since 2013) been reluctant to do. Since Day 1 of 2013, the ground crew has been outsourced. You’ll never see a JetBlue marked employee on the ramp, they’re all 3rd party at ORH. Not once had anyone of my sources at Atlantic Aviation mentioned staffing changes so I should’ve seen the red flags 🚩. With the announcement I guess I just assumed they had finally made the jump & put their own staff in. I was wrong.
So basically we shouldn’t expect any further expansion of service from Jetblue because they don’t want to supply their own crew here…. Yeah, sounds like they are really “committed” to ORH.
What’s even more pathetic is the dog and pony photo op show that was put on for all the politicians at ORH a few days ago.
The FLL flight had to come back due to flash floods shutting down the airport in Fort Lauderdale. They got something like 25″ inches of rainfall in the last 48 hours.
Yeah just saw a clip of how high the rain is. Never seen an airport underwater before and there would be absolutely zero chance of a plane landing there (a sea plane would have a better chance of landing there than anything)
Extremely unfortunate for those who planned on traveling down there for the week because of school vacation. The airport mentioned they won’t reopen until it is 100% safe to fly again and is closed till 9am Friday (as of the time this comment is being typed)
Hope people don’t try to blame the airport for it and not take the flight again. Wouldn’t surprise me if tomorrow (Friday’s) flight gets cancelled maybe even Saturday’s depending on how the rain how fast the water drains there. 25.9” of rain so far has fallen so hopefully everyone down there is safe. They’ve pushed back the time 3 times now for how late the airport will open and I expect it to be pushed back again. The only way for people to get down there is either fly into Miami or West Palm Beach and then drive up from Miami or down from PBI IF you can even drive on the roads down there.
Update, they plan on opening the airport at 9am. Fortunately it seems the water has drained a lot faster than expected but there are still thunderstorms and heavy rain forecasted for the area. As of right now the Worcester flight is still scheduled
