JetBlue to open its first airport lounges as CEO focuses on getting ‘back to profitability’
Good column think stuff like this bodes well for ORH and JetBlue
Avelo open and close routes like drinking water, we need a solid airlines that has a strong network. Forget Avelo!!
Avelo turned a profit and receiving new planes from a Brazilian airlines
Breeze just announced new flights from Manchester, NH. So Manchester now has Breeze and Avelo. Meanwhile at ORH………………
Breeze is smart with that. They’re mainly going to Florida which only one airline was going to fly there (southwest) and that should be successful for them (spirit has pulled out of MHT for year round service in May). MHT has been pushing airlines for flights and they got Sun Country as well. They’re not competing with Avelo necessarily as well (although South Carolina you can argue although it isn’t the same airport)
ORH has probably been quiet because there’s only so many flights they can have. I mentioned this before last week and I’ll mention it again, parking is a major issue if the airport wants to expand. Last week was the first time ever I’ve seen signage up there that said either “No parking here. Authorized personnel only” along the road area at the airport, “Alternate employee parking in effect” and “temporary parking available here.” The airport officials probably knew that parking is an issue and isn’t pushing expansion as aggressive as bad as MHT which have been for the past 12 months and so has Bradley with international carriers. Don’t forget too that they are looking for a flight to Puerto Rico and more flights to NYC according to the Boston globe article. I remember seeing somewhere that they don’t want a shuttle to the airport as well so the thought of using the Worcester State satellite lot in the summer or the old Big D/Price Chopper lot on Mill street and shuttling people up there you can forget about that. That doesn’t exclude the WRTA which goes to the airport and is highly underused by many especially since it’s free.
February Vacation was a test for them to see how it would go and what could be better or worse. The Boston globe article also stated that those 200 spots that were added to the upper lot are only temporary but we’ll really see if that remains true. March 9th to 23rd will be the next big test. Spring break for the college students as well as the schools that get 2 weeks off in March compared to one in February and one in April. April break I’m not expecting many issues. The fort Myers flight will be back to 2x a week at that point.
Also side note: no flights for JetBlue on Tuesdays and Wednesdays for September and most of October 2024 at the moment like last year. Hopefully that changes but we’ll see
JetBlue deal with spirit officially done. JetBlue will pay spirit $69 million for termination. Unknown if Frontier will try again to jump in or not but nothing has been mentioned of that
