Breeze is expanding in Manchester and Portsmouth. Manchester is getting a flight to Myrtle Beach and Portsmouth is getting a flight to Raleigh/Durham.
Worcester should get Breeze, they are in every other small airport, it must be political
It’s probably a combination of reasons why we haven’t gotten any new service at ORH in over 2 years. Politics is probably a big part of it. I remember reading that Massachusetts is one of the worst states in the country to do business in. Red tape, over regulating everything, endless fees, its no wonder why businesses are fleeing this state. I think Massport is part of the problem too. Either they aren’t marketing this airport properly to other airlines or the airlines that would fit well at ORH just aren’t interested in working with Massport. I think a lack of better access routes to ORH is an issue also. You have to drive a maze of roads and turns to get to ORH and like I mentioned in a previous post, the condition of Goddard Memorial Drive is disgraceful and the city should be ashamed.
For the heck of it, I looked up what the economic impacts are of some other small airports in New England. The planned expansion of Tweed in New Haven is expected to have an economic impact of nearly half a billion dollars to the New Haven area over the next couple of years. The operations at Pease Airport have an economic impact of a billion dollars annually to the area. Imagine the impact that a successful ORH could have on the Worcester area. Worcester could use it. It’s not like companies are lining up to set up shop here. Where’s the Worcester Chamber of Commerce? I won’t even bother asking about the Worcester City Council. They’re more interested in virtue signaling and trying to open government run grocery stores. This city can’t even complete a paving job in a reasonable amount of time, I can’t imagine how bad it would be if they tried running a grocery store.
