Load factors for the JB flights to start 2025 were in the 75-90% range for the first 4 months of 2025. People have to remember with JetBlue when it comes to flying that all seats are available to purchase however it doesn’t show the true amount of tickets booked because a lot of people don’t pay for a seat assignment and don’t get assigned to it till check in (I’ve purchased upgraded seats and moved seats less than 2 hours before a flight before)

In regards to the other comment, $1400 for round trip looked to be right for the weekend flights. You have to remember in August it’s also the time where college students move in and they fly on weekends so parents can be there to help then go home Sunday. Minus the 6 that are actually in Worcester that have dorms (WPI, Worcester State, Clark, Holy Cross, Assumption, MCPHS) it doesn’t include colleges like Fitchburg State, Anna Maria, and other schools that are close by where you can fly into Worcester. Also, historically speaking from going up to Maine for years, the last week of July and first week of August are the busiest for vacationers. With the airplane looking half empty, like I said previously you can book any seat you want and they won’t start to be blocked off until 24 hours before departure.

I’ve flown to and from Florida 7 times since 2021 and every time but twice I’ve flown into or out of ORH with both times being because it was the winter and a Wednesday so they didn’t have flights and had to fly to Logan. There’s only been one time where I’ve booked the blue fare (the ones that comes w free seat selection and at the time before everyone had it a free carry on) and never spent more than $250 round trip. I always book ahead of time and try to capitalize on deals but even when there isn’t deals, you can book currently for $134 on blue basic for the fall.

  1. In retrospect, I think Avelo expanded way too fast. Plus, I think they are getting some blowback about the deportation flights. With or without the West Coast routes, they weren’t coming to Worcester anyways.

Going back to Paul’s comment, that was a lot of helpful info. I get it that the time before school starts up again has high demand. We unfortunately didn’t have a ton of flexibility in our schedules, although we did have a 2 or 3 day window of flexibility. In all honestly, I would have considered a connecting flight on Delta or American but arriving after 10pm or 11pm at my final destination is a deal breaker. I had been doing a lot of flying out of Providence but I’ve pivoted back to Logan as the flight times and prices have been better there. I have 2 trips to West Palm booked out of Logan for the fall and am going to be booking at least one more in the next month or so. Looking at possibly doing a Red Sox spring training trip to Fort Myers in 2026 but that will likely be out of Boston as well as I’ve pretty much given up on ever using ORH.

The JetBlue flight loads out of ORH look good and if they are getting $1,400 for a pair of roundtrip tickets there is clearly demand, yet it’s been 2+ years since we got any new service at ORH, and even then it was just a seasonal flight and we lost the JFK flights. Something is keeping airlines away from adding or starting new service at ORH. Is it dealing with Massport that’s the problem? Is it the lack of direct access? People are begging for new or better service but there doesn’t seem to be any appetite on the part of the airlines or Massport to do anything. Would be great if Spectrum News or the Business Journal could do another story and get some answers. But then again, it would likely be just another puff piece about how great things are at ORH. I’d be happy with better connecting service, be it earlier flights or different hubs like DC, Charlotte, or Atlanta. If you look at the ORH Facebook page, 75% or more of the comments are people asking for more service. It could be a great asset to the area but I don’t see how ORH survives long-term if nothing changes.

  2. Tampa, PR. JB is an east coast airlines. Not much flying for them out west, so they would definitely need to add a few more east coast destination’s. Tampa is a hot location.
