Read Time:1 Minute, 15 Second

I don’t think the city should be running the airport either but somehow Massport, with all the resources they have, have pretty much failed at running ORH.

JetBlue announced major expansions and increases at New England airports over the last couple of days.  Large increases in flights out of Logan, tripling the number of seats available out of Providence, increases in service in Portland, and new service to Orlando, Fort Lauderdale, and Fort Myers out of Manchester NH which will be in direct competition to ORH and may end up being a nail in the coffin for ORH if it starts losing what little market share it has to Manchester and Providence.

I already do most of my flying out of Providence anyways. Haven’t flown out of Worcester since DirectAir was here. Not because I don’t want to, but because I can’t conveniently get to where I need to go. The fact that I’m willing to drive an hour to Providence instead of the 7 or 8 minutes to ORH speaks volumes.

Whatever Massport’s plan was or is for ORH, it isn’t working. And now Avelo is going to start service at Bradley….  It won’t be long before they start service in Providence and you’ll probably see both Breeze and Avelo at Logan before you ever see them at ORH.

Enjoy the flights to Florida for now. JetBlue clearly isn’t expanding here and if they start making flight cuts I wouldn’t be surprised to see one or all ORH flights cut.

  1. The airline industry is hard to figure out. Remember AVELO is cutting and adding like crazy. JB is established. AVELO could out of business in a month if things go wrong. JB won’t cut service if we average 85% seats.

  2. ORH has become useless to me,, particularly without daily service to FLL

It’s only for people who are retired with second homes inFL that can fly whenever, not for frequent travelers who need to go when they need to go and price is second dairy as a comsideration.

I use BOS almost exclusively (some PVD if the times for direct flights work). I just take 6 am flights so traffic isn’t an issue at all. Parking is very expensive, but it’s still better than not having a real flight option at all

  3. Worcester will never be a business traveler airport, they tried that with JB to NY and it was a flop 50% jets. Worcester is a vacation airport and second home airport, for the owner /family/friend travelers. The positive, there are a lot of people from the snow and ice belt of central Ma that own homes in the Broward/Palm BeachCounty area. I live in Worcester and Boston, Logan airport sucks. I just flew back from Honolulu ,6:30 this morning the traffic out of the airport was 40 min. I’m. leaving for DR on Monday 5 am flight from Logan to Santo Domingo, the place will be a mad house. Flying out of Worcester is great! Think about this, you drive in from Webster, Ma for a flight from Worcester to FLL in mid winter the place is packed no parking, what are your options park the car on that crazy road down airport hill. If you add more flights, you need more parking. The access road is bull, the parking is real. If Massport increase parking another 150-200 spots, more airlines will arrive. Airlines send logistic personal to look at parking etc, Worcester airport doesn’t have the parking.

  4. Wouldn’t the park situation be an easy fix? Build a garage where the main parking area is, in the meantime use the WSU parking overflow that WSU built a couple years ago. I’m sure University would be willing to profit from that empty parking lot.
