Carl Icahn
Jetson mentioned him in a comment. Lately I have been thinking about him?
This guy now has a big say in what direction JetBlue will or will not go. Does the City of Worcester think about making a pitch directly to him??
How we could duplicate what Avelo at Tweed with JetBlue in Worcester..
Jetson comment:
Carl Icahn could be Worcester airports problem. If I controlled JB I would beef up Worcester to full capacity, especially with non-stop flights. JB can do it! I was negative Breeze, but… I think they are a real player with a profit on the horizon soon. They could run 5- 10 flights a day out of Worcester.

JetBlue to open its first airport lounges as CEO focuses on getting ‘back to profitability’
Good column think stuff like this bodes well for ORH and JetBlue
Carl was the one that ruined TWA and what’s why people are worried about JetBlue.
Fort Lauderdale flight diverted to Logan today. Yes we have the Cat III but visibility is horrible. I just drove past the airport and could barely see the airport building from the street. American I expect to do the same as it’s on the way to Worcester right now. Huge difference though in visibility once you go to Webster square though as it seems normal but up at the airport you can’t see anything.
American diverted as well
Paul:
I think Icahn has come a long way since his TWA days. His team are all about optimizing value for shareholders. Think there is real good arguement here to expand serices out of Worcester. Fits their back to basics movement right now.
Bill
Airlines don’t want to divert flights, it cost money. Other airlines look at that data, especially low cost carriers like Avelo. Avelo can’t go to Boston on a divert, they would have to go to tweed. Other airlines go back to there origin and that sucks.
I think that’s why delta just straight up canceled yesterday. They had buses for the people on the JetBlue flights to bring them to Boston and leave from there. No idea how in the world the Fort Myers still managed to land though. Fog never got any better and pretty sure I heard ATC tell the plane “we can’t see you guys” when the plane had to taxi to the gates.”
I definitely think the potential is there though Bill for sure but Carl and his team if they look at Worcester and wonder why in the world they’re flying to a city an hour away from Bradley, Providence, and Boston and those airports have more flights than Worcester why would they continue. That’s where the concern comes into play. It’s still unclear how he feels about flying into smaller markets like Worcester but I think worcester not being part of the first route cuts is really good. I think the bigger strength is the fact that the new CEO has been to worcester and went to school here and knows how the airport is. If profitable routes are a focus, why would Worcester routes to Florida be cut?
There’s just a lot of unknown about how Carl feels about JetBlue and what he’s looking for. Was he responsible for the idea of the extra charge of seats in the front that aren’t even more space? Was he responsible for the idea of checked bags being more during “peak times” of the year? If he was responsible for it what else is he looking to possibly charge people for? There’s a lot of questions that remain which has people worried.
Just tried to use PRH to Nashville on JB or De.TA . I refuse to fly AA after more than one experience that left me angry, not simoly unsatisfied.
Noting worked timing wise for my meetings, but it’s getting closer!
On Carl Icahn, “Blue Horshoe loves JetBle”. Not good.
What I mean by that is if ORH looks to be adding more cost and risk of loss than opportunity to him, it’s gone.
If it looks to be an underappreciated asset with potential that others don’t see, he doubles down. Costs at BOS are only going up…for everything, not just at the airport
Our competition on that thinking is PVD, maybe others.
Massports Capital Investments Plan is out for the year, it’s a good read if anyone is interested.
Has soon good info on the plans for Worcester. Looks like their planning 5mil in FY25 (which starts this June) for an all-new dedicated overflow lot. Expanding the restaurant & passenger facilities post security, new paving & parking lot improvements out front. Also looks like airside taxiway improvements have been pushed back. Overall, some decent investments in the airport planned. Seem to be more focused on Pax experience improvements & alleviate overcrowding, than airfield improvements. Should help in the long run if they want to add flights. They need the extra parking, more pax space, etc if they ever want to sustain additional flights.

Breeze announced they made a profit. They could soon challenge JB. The CEO started, west jet, azul, JB.
I just read an article that Icahn may buy more shares of JB and add two more board members. He is driving JB staff crazy. He also wants to change the point system. Too bad this had to happen, the government should have approved the spirit deal. Big government equals bad business
Flew out of Logan on a last minute trip today. Logan Express lots all full. The airport was packed. Thank God for TSA Pre-Check. Ironically, I ran into a friend of my wife who also lives in Central Mass. and they were bringing a large group to Tampa. Said they would love to have used Worcester Airport but there is no good option to get to Tampa from Worcester. It’s either 2 stops flying American or get in late at night on Delta. With a large group of kids that was a non-starter, so they rented a bus and went to Logan. Their issue getting to Tampa from Worcester is the same one I have in getting to West Palm Beach from Worcester. There is just no good option. Just makes me curious about how much business Worcester could have if we had better hub flight options. It doesn’t seem as if there is any will on the part of the airlines or Massport to try to make that happen.
I l tried booking a flight into Myrtle Beach and ran into the same issue with multiple connections and late evening arrivals. I don’t want to use another airport but con not justify putting myself through a 8-9hr flight day with multiple connections to go to Myrtle Beach. I will keep my fingers crossed for more flight times. Also I flew to Fort Lauderdale last month and both flights were full and the flights were great!
JetBlue branding is off of gate 3 at ORH. Expected because they’ll be back to 2 flights instead of 3. Doesn’t mean a reduction in service is permanent, Fort Myers flight is ending soon.
Flew with American down to Nashville today from ORH. Got stuck at the taxiway because of so much traffic trying to go to JFK we left at 230 and landed around 310 but only had 2 minutes to spare when making it to the next gate for Nashville. Although it wasn’t bad, a lot of connections from JFK if they’re one stop are very short windows. Mine was 40 minutes but subtract the 15 for when the doors close before and the amount of time it takes to taxi to the gates at JFK and there’s barely any time to spare. Only made the flight because the gates were right next to each other. Surprisingly parking wasn’t an issue compared to February and Christmas break.
I didn’t see the Orlando flight load but the Fort Lauderdale one looked to be close to full today. I’m flying down to Fort Lauderdale in 3 weeks so I’ll post an update on that. The American flight had 18 seats available so not bad compared to other times
