Simple Plan For Success At ORH

Read Time:44 Second

If you look at Tweed and Avelo or now Breeze at TF Green, it is pretty simple to see that they target Florida. If you look at the success we are having with FLL and MCO, will have with Fort Myers. The question is why are we not flying to 8 destination in Florida like Avelo does out of Tweed.

If silly bloggers realize this, why doesn’t Massport? You can not tell me that Massport cannot make this happen… Our we waiting for more infrastructure improvements??

Truly confused right now.

  • Sumner Tunnel closure
  • Example Tweed has shown us with Avelo
  • Current success of JetBlue flights to Florida out of ORH

We should be thriving right now. Ten years of Massport ownership, is this the best we can expect??? Maybe they should sell us to Providence and/or Hartford and we can be reliever airports for them.

  1. All this whining that Massport hasn’t done squat to grow ORH. When are you going to realize that it’s an AIRLINE’S decision where they fly. Airport authorities and the government donot dictate who flies where. Avelo is successful (though the verdict is still out on that)in New Haven because they are far enough away from metro NY and Hartford, and the population density is at least twice as large as Worcester. and don’t cite that Worcester is the 2nd largest city in New England. That’s because the size of the city is twice the size of New Haven, Hartford, and Providence. I’ll bet you if you use the same square mile area around those cities (and others like Manchester, Springfield, etc) as Worcester’s, Worcester would be around the 6th or 7th largest city in population. The cold hard fact is that Worcester is too close to Boston and Providence. Airlines don’t want to take passengers away from the flights in those cities. The only reason why Orlando and Ft Lauderdale is so successful is because they are already full out of the other airports. Oh yea, all this criticism that temporary flights weren’t put into Worcester? Did you stop and ask yourself why temporary flights weren’t added in Manchester and Providence either? That’s because the AIRLINES don’t want to. They still have the flights flying out of Boston, and if they put one in Worcester or Providence, then they’ll have 2 planes flying half full. That’s why they are supporting the Governor to urge people to plan accordingly. This is not rocket science people.

  2. I agree we are too close to Boston and Providence. Worcester has become a bedroom city of Boston. We can still service more cities. No air traffic easy on and out.

  3. Worcester would be a great airport to focus on Florida destinations. Palm Beach is expanding its airport, and a flight to Palm beach would be beneficial even though it’s an hour from Fort Lauderdale. Between Fort Lauderdale and west palm beach, you got Pompano Beach, Deerfield Beach, Boca Raton, Highland Beach, Delray Beach, and Lake Worth. Oceanfront and close to the ocean houses and condos have skyrocketed in value and demand the past 5-10 years and those beaches are the closest to west palm and Fort Lauderdale that still have housing and condos. It’s not many but it’s where the market is extremely hot. I have work trips to west palm beach every year and I fly down to Fort Lauderdale then take a bus or train up to west palm. I remember flying out of west palm in 2022 to go to LaGuardia on delta’s a321 and the flight was packed full (191 seats).

If Worcester was marketed towards Florida, it would be a huge hit. The data shows it already with past FLL and MCO flights. Tampa and Palm Beach have huge markets that not many airports in New England outside of Boston have flights too. I would still like to see some flights for business travelers like American to DCA or Charlotte and Delta to either Atlanta, Detroit, or Minneapolis but for families and leisure travelers, non stop to Florida makes the most sense. Saw comments on avelo to Raleigh from the MHT Facebook page mentioning that “no one wants to fly to Raleigh” or “why get some leisure destinations?” Non business travelers want flights to vacation destinations, they’re the airlines biggest markets and especially families that have kids in strollers or baby car seats, it’s a pain for them to make connecting flights.
