You may or may not have noticed an announcement recently that Marty St. George will be taking over as President at JetBlue. This directly influences ORH’s state of affairs which, despite the Globe’s best efforts, are notably lackluster. A year ago Worcester had five daily flights – now only twice a week does Worcester reach that total, and on Tuesdays and Wednesdays we are left with only two flights (one of which is canceled already for today). These performance for the regional flights to NYC hubs has been so horrendous that one can’t help but acknowledge that these flights would not exist without the relationship with Massport, with or without Andy Davis.

Marty was one of the first to believe in Worcester and could hopefully bring some of that spirit back to the JetBlue ranks. Ever since Barger has left, industry professionals have noted an unwelcome turnaround in leadership that has led the company that once promised strictly organic growth to pursue alliances and partnerships, and with Spirit of all airlines!!

Worcester has proven Florida over and over again. All signs point to the Fort Myers flight being a smashing success so far. Let’s hope it continues, the service is expanded and that MSG brings some more promise to ORH’s future!

  1. I like the idea of targeting San Juan, more NYC flights, and other business hubs. Although the data right now shows it wouldn’t be successful, they need to fix the times and that’s what would make it successful for delta. American would need to switch again.

Business hubs should be a priority to get but leisure destinations will be successful if more of those flights come. If Delta could fix how the Detroit flight was in 2019 and bring it back to an earlier time or bring in Minneapolis that would be a success. I have trips coming up to Nashville, Fort Lauderdale, Phoenix, and Las Vegas this year and only one of those I think I’ll use Worcester but the rest Logan because of how connections are trying to get out of Worcester

  2. Delta Atlanta would work, American Chicago, JB -Ft Myers, Ft Lauderdale, Orlando, Palm beach ( seasonal), Tampa, San Juan. San Juan would be a home run. I own property in DR and I fly the 10-11 pm flight to Santo Domingo, the flight to San Juan is next to the Santo Domingo gate, and the plane is always full, the return flight could be at 4am leaving San Juan returning to Worcester and early morning flight to Ft. Lauderdale. Many connection to Caribbean and South American in FLL at 10 am.

  3. I have status with Delta which makes me extremely loyal. I would love to see an early morning flight to either Atlanta or JFK, and keep the mid-day turn to LGA. I know most people would say no to JFK, but it is also a Delta hub, and Delta could advertise 2 x daily flights to NYC. Between JFK and LGA we would be able to have direct connections to most of Delta’s destinations including west coast and internacional destinations. If you look at Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket that’s what they have, LGA and JFK, not ATL.

As for American, JFK is a flop. They need to go back to Philadelphia, or switch to Chicago or Charlotte. It’s just not working out for them.

  4. I noticed today that MassPort is advertising daily flights to NYC and Florida along with the FlyWorcester.com website on the electronic billboard on 290 westbound right after Kelley Square.

And last Sunday, there was a full page Ad in the Telegram that very few of us actually still read. I would have used this money elsewhere but at least there’s some advertising being done.

  5. ORH is having issues with parking right now. State troopers had the lower lot blocked off and there were signs that said “temporary parking spots” to try and fit extra cars. Great to see because the 5 flights should be doing well this week being school vacation week especially for the fort myers flight but this is something that needs to be addressed and fixed if ORH wants more flights. The 200 spots on top that are added are supposedly temporary according to the Boston globe article but they’ll need more in order for expansion
