Tidbits

Read Time:44 Second

Sorry just been very busy and nothing seems to change at the airport.

Here are a couple miscellaneous thoughts

  1. Mill Street: You really need to drive down this street to see the changes. Literally is hard to explain other than there will be multiple car crashes and people will get hurt.
  2. Holiday Inn Express: It was 4 floors now it all 4 floors being taken illegal immigrants and homeless. In fact hearing Holiday Inn Express may take their desigantion away and there will a name change to Worcester Hotel.
  3. WooSox for Sale: Could have told you that three years ago. Great lease with no property taxes being paid. Current WooSox owners will make a ton of money, while the City will have to dip into General Fund to pay bond payments on the park since there will not be enough revenues from the DIF to cover.

  1. Bangor and Worcester airports are now the only 2 airports in New England that have multiple airlines there and don’t have Avelo or Breeze operating (or going to be operating) there thanks to Burlington getting Breeze starting late January 2024.

The mill street project is extremely dumb with what they did. I can understand it but it’s really dumb that we’re suppose to park in the middle of the road for street parking. Supposedly the city councilor Etel Haxiaj or whatever her name is the one that is behind the entire thing and there were meetings behind closed doors for it and no public input until after it was official.

Also, I believe that the airport rehabilitation work is done on the other half of the runway. Haven’t seen the runway closes at night lately so good chance it’s done. Be interesting to see if any new news comes out of the airport since it’s completed and what’s next for the airport.

  2. Avelo is growing at a rapid pace up 57% this fall season. Breeze is in financial trouble. If jet blue doesn’t get the merger green light from the feds, they are done. The stock is trading at $4 usd. We may get another airline to take over their operation at Worcester. The baseball team is a joke. Larry is out, he knows baseball is done, especially minor league. The ex city manager created this mess. The tax payers of Worcester, whom average 18.34 per hour will be burdened with this debt. The city should sell the stadium to the California group. Maybe they can get 10 cents on the dollar for it. The hotel issues is governor Healy’s demise, she will get bounced out in a few years. We need a republican governor, to balance issues. Nobody cares about the west side of Worcester anymore. All the new business and growth is on the east side. The highways, hospitals, new apartments etc are on the east side. Lake ave new size home built is 3000-4000 square feet, Worcester people want the east side.

  3. The business is on the east side because it’s easy highway access. To go from the east side to west side of Worcester can take up to 35 minutes depending on the time of day. I go from just south of Lincoln Plaza to (around the) airport every weekday around 5pm, 20 minutes to get there earlier in the day, and 30-35 minutes to get home. Daylights savings time does play a factor because there’s a lot more traffic when it gets darker (wait till March, there’s a huge difference). Plus with the east side compared to the west, think about how densely populated Shrewsbury and Westborough are compared to Leicester and Paxton. About a 40,000 person difference and like I mentioned before, trying to get to the other side of the city in the morning or afternoon sucks. If there was direct highway access to the airport/west side, it would make a huge difference however there’s not. The only benefit of the west side is you have access to the pike, 290, and I-84 but it still can take 20-30 minutes to hit one of those highways especially with all of the construction going on.

In other news, Mill street had its first accident with the new layout today. According to someone on next door, someone was parked (in the middle of the road mind you like they’re supposed to be) in front of Logan field and got rear ended by a car driving by. First of many accidents to come for sure. I’ll give it 2 or 3 more until the end of the year and the excuse will be “not everyone is familiar with the new layout yet”
